Missing 14-Year-Old Found Dead in Buncombe County


BUNCOMBE COUNTY, N.C. — Authorities have confirmed that a missing teenager was found dead Tuesday after an extensive search in a wooded area of Buncombe County.

According to the Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded Monday to a report of a missing 14-year-old and immediately began search efforts with assistance from multiple agencies. Crews from the Skyland Fire Department, Buncombe County Emergency Services, and the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation joined in the operation.

Search efforts were paused overnight but resumed Tuesday morning. After several hours, the body of Sundari Anders-Hoepgen, 14, was located in the surrounding wooded area.

Deputies stated there is no threat to the public in connection with the case. Additional details have not yet been released as the investigation continues.

The Sheriff’s Office expressed condolences to Sundari’s family and thanked all agencies and community members who aided in the search.
