LOS ANGELES — Authorities have identified the woman killed in a tragic weekend shooting in Los Angeles’ Harvard Heights neighborhood as 73-year-old Sung Yang.
The incident unfolded late Saturday night, around 10:30 p.m., in the 1300 block of South St. Andrews Place near Pico Boulevard and Western Avenue. Los Angeles police said a dispute between a 60-year-old man and a 50-year-old woman escalated, prompting the woman to call out for help.
A man driving nearby stopped his vehicle and attempted to intervene, but the suspect opened fire, striking both the woman and the good Samaritan. Emergency crews rushed the victims to the hospital, where Yang later died of her injuries. The man who tried to help survived and was listed in stable condition.
The gunman fled on foot before officers arrived, and no arrests have yet been made. Detectives are continuing to investigate the circumstances of the altercation and are working to determine whether the suspect and victims knew one another.
Police are urging anyone with information to contact the LAPD’s Olympic Community Police Station at 213-382-9102, or call the department’s 24/7 line at 877-527-3247. Anonymous tips may also be submitted through L.A. Regional Crime Stoppers at 800-222-8477 or online at lacrimestoppers.org.
